Well, it is summer time, and it is music festival time in Michigan. I love music of all shapes and sizes. Music has a way of doing things that medications simply can not. Each year I try to volunteer to the best of my ability with one local music festival that benefits a cause that I believe in.

Everyone has heard that "Some Gave All" and in fact they did. Then there are those who returned home only to be shunned by the very government that they swore an oath to serve. I dare say that over the past few years there has been improvement, but there is still a long ways to go in serving our Veterans.

Rock4Vets in conjunction with Brave Not Broken Inc. and a whole slew of amazing volunteers help facilitate what amounts to a 2 day event each year to raise funds to be donated to local veterans groups. In addition to that they also do a food drive that is donated to an area food bank designed to help Veterans.

In addition, they also sponsor an annual golf outing that serves as a fund raiser to help cover the costs associated with organizing this event each year. That is also handled by a group of volunteers. I look forward to this event each and every year.

While my work officially begins the Friday night before, I usually try to make myself available to help with what ever I can earlier in that week. Have you ever tried to prepare a meal for up to 10 national touring bands, plus a slew of volunteer staff? It is amusing from time to time.

Today was the first annual committee meeting in the run up to the event. This is where we address any residual issues from the previous years event, and begin putting all of the pieces into place. When you attend one of these music festivals, most people have no idea what goes into making them safe and successful.

Friday night is what is called the "campfire takeover" and this is basically a small intimate show for the volunteers who will not have time to interact as fans on the day of the event. This small intimate show is also where those who chose to spend the extra money and camp with us get a chance for more personal interaction with the artists.

These Artists are famous, but they are people, just like you and me. It is purely amazing being able to interact with these entertainers as PEOPLE instead of purely entertainers. It is also an opportunity that many people will never experience.

Needless to say, I only accomplished a small portion of what I set out to for today, but as I have said, MUSIC is important to me, and so is this cause.
